Around The Vale of Ewyas

Llanthony Priory in the Vale of Ewyas

The Vale of Ewyas, named by occupying Normans, is the deep, glaciated valley of the Honddu within the Black Mountains. Its circuit is one of many fine mountain walks that we know on these lonely hills. The Black Mountains lend themselves to long ridge walks where most of the climbing is done early in the day. Here we will guide you from Llanthony or Capel y Ffin, both with fascinating Christian heritage, along the Hatterrall ridge (which carries the Offa's Dyke Path) and Ffawyddog ridge. Together these two long, gently inclined ridges give great hill walking. The Black Mountains is our home turf and we would love to guide you around these remote, yet accessible, hills.
