Tour 1 Energetic Hill Walking in The Black Mountains

We will walk on The Black Mountains from the ruined Augustine Priory at Llanthony onto the high ridge of Hatterall Hill, the border of Wales and England. Following the Offa's Dyke National Trail, we will have  great views over the border country of the Wesl Marches. Descending back to the Vale of Ewyas, we visit the isolated Capel-y-Ffin and its atmospheric tiny chapels. We then return via the Ffawyddog ridge to Llanthony.

Distance: 12 miles / 18 km  Ascent: 2000' / 600 m

Tour 2 Short walk and driven tour of The Black Mountains

 We will visit the Vale of Ewyas an historical and scenically beautiful glaciated valley that flows down through the Black Mountains. Our tour will include Britain's most "crooked church" at Cwmyoy, the picturesque ruins of Llanthony Priory and St Mary's Chapel at Capel-y-Ffin. We will ascend Hay Bluff with spectacular views over the Wye Valley before descending to the "Town of Books", Hay-on-Wye for an afternoon tea break.

Tour 3 A driven tour of The Black Mountains

We will first visit Tretower Court & Castle, a lovely introduction to this temptestous border lands. Morning coffee is taken at the thriving market town of Crickhowell before heading off the beaten track to the remote holy well and chapel at Patrishow. The Vale of Ewyas an historical and scenically beautiful glaciated valley that flows down through the Black Mountains and our tour will include Britain's most "crooked church" at Cwmyoy, the picturesque ruins of Llanthony Priory and St Mary's Chapel at Capel-y-Ffin. We will cross the two thousand foot Gospel Pass before descending to the "Town of Books", Hay-on-Wye for an afternoon tea break and a good browse around the many independent shops and stores.
