Guided Cycle Rides at Llangoed

Gentle Lane Cycling 5 - 10 miles (Moderately strenuous)

We will cycle from the hotel itself and explore the neighbouring villages of Glasbury, with its bridge and castle; Llanstephan, with its ancient church and the delightful Wye valley. Little of Wales is truly flat but we'll use lanes rarely travelled!

The Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal

Mon & Brec Canal - Gentle Off-Road Cycling (10 - 20 miles)

The Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal stretches from Newport up to Brecon and follows the Usk valley all the way. Largely level, the towpath forms an excellent traffic-free cycle route for all to enjoy. Join us on the beautiful canal where frequent rest stops at canl-side pubs and tearooms make the miles fly by!

Family cycle trail, Elan Valley

Elan Valley Family Cycle Trail 10 - 20 miles

This ride starts at the lovely market town of Rhayader in the Cambrian Mountains, 45 minutes north of Llangoed. We follow the route of a railway originally built to construct the awesome Elan Valley dams, converted for the Millennium as a family cycle trail. We then follow gentle gradients to pass four dams amidst magnificent scenery. With a tea room at the top and a cafe at the bottom, what more could you ask for? And if you want more of a challenge we can make it a circle by cycling the Elan Round, though that does take rather more effort from the legs!

Clydach Gorge and the Usk Valley

Explore the Valleys (30 miles)

This circular cycle route takes us up the Clydach Gorge on National Cycle Route 49, past World Heritage Site, Blaenavon, to the former coal mining town of Pontypool. We return along the towpath of the Monmouthshire & Brecon canal. For sheer variety of scenery this day is hard to beat but it is a strenuous day out.

Mountain Biking in the Brecon Beacons National Park

Mountain Biking - Black Mountains 30 - 40 miles

This is a strenuous day out but if you like getting off-road and don't mind putting in the effort, then you'll love this ride. It starts tough with a ride or push high up into The Black Mountains. Next we cycle down the McNamara Carriage Road that runs down the Gwyrne Fechan valley. We can then return on tarmac to Crickhowell and a well earned rest at The Gliffaes or can return by a longer track back across the Black Mountains. The choice is yours!
