The River Wye flows from Plynlimon, 2,468 feet up in the Cambrian Mountains down to join the River Severn at Chepstow in Monmouthshire. Its valley is one of the most beautiful in Britain. The upper reaches run through Mid Wales in a deep valley with many rapids and deep pools. The Wye then changes direction and meanders languidly across Herefordshire until it plunges into the lower Wye Valley, which has been an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty since 1972. We live beside the Wye and would love to share with you the delights of this "princess of British rivers". An old Welsh myth referred to the Afon Gwy ~ River Wye as being one of Plynlimon's daughters. If so, then she is the most beautiful but most wilful; a contrary, unpredictable lady who deserves your visit!
